1st week back

My 1st week back at the office and it was straight to work. Monday morning went to go do some more surveying and measuring up of the new project; House Jones. that took most basically all of the morning and after lunch it was back to the drawing board, finishing some working drawings and details for the pool and boundary wall for House Coombe.
Did some details for benches at Vera School as well as the stair details.

House Holmes progress

been to the site of house holmes, which almost completed with the final touches been done to the kitchen and is almost ready to be snagged.
I've been working on the kitchen drawings since Feb, and now that it is almost done, I was almost at a loss for word when i saw it. Its incredible to see the change, and more than that, I see how brilliant Bert is. Also to see your own drawings and details come to life is quite special.
I am hoping to add pictures of most of the the finished projects and specific details along side the drawings that I have done.

vera update

Vera school drawings are almost complete and we are mostly waiting on councils approval so that we can start building as soon as possible.
I have been back and forth to the Athlone council numerous times, discussing problems with planners, having to fill out new forms or forms that are missing, as well as getting consent from neighbours etc.

post catch up

went with the architect to the site of a new project we have, House Jones, who is also a family friend to the architect.
its an old house which the client is looking to have renovated
Bert and I had to go take pictures and measure up some unknown dimensions as well as re check existing dimensions as some of the existing plans we received seem to be a bit off.
Bert(arch.) already did a scheme/ sketch of an idea a walked me through what we will be doing to the house.

something new

Last week wednesday, I got to go to site again, had to measure up all exsiting light positions and exsiting switches and power points in the kitchen we are re-doing once that was done, I drew up an elecrical plan for the kichen showing existing and new electrical elements and is now ready for me to issue it to the contractor and electrition.

recent activities

The Holmes boundary wall and kitchen project is back on...

The reason why it was put on hold was because Mrs Holmes didn't want to deal with contractors and builders in  and out of the house, but now that they are going away on holiday it was decided that it would go through with the kitchen and get all of the messy work out of the way..

They have also made quite a few changes so there will be a lot of revised drawings for me to do.

way behind

this week has been going well... busy drawing as usual, haven't really been out of the office on site or to council for a while because construction hasn't started on any of our new projects..

really eager to get started on drawings of the proposed classrooms at the Vera school, I built the model a while back and its like nothing I've seen in Cape Town before, pretty exciting stuff and its also the firms 1st non residential project so they're keen to get it going.

Bert Pepler, my boss is actually on the governing body for the school and one of his daughters attend Vera.

the school was given money by the lottery fund and so approached Bert to do the project as he had done previous work for them in the past, small things though.

Anyway, I'll be posting pics of the model with the rest of my updated work portfolio.
